From Graduate Stylist to Stylist

From Graduate Stylist to Stylist

It gives us great pleasure to announce that our Graduate Stylist Hannah will be officially taking up the position of Stylist from January 1st.
Hannah’s progression has been especially pleasing as she came to us as a 15 year old school girl and quickly demonstrated her natural flair for hairdressing. She has a great deal of enthusiasm and passion for her work together with a natural ability and flair. She loves creative colouring and cutting plus she’s highly skilled and a great talent for hair up styling for special occasions and is also a great men’s hairdresser

Hannah puts her all into her clients and likes to think that when they walk through that door they leave with a little piece of her!

We asked Hannah a few questions about herself, her career and how she sees the future;

1. What are your thoughts about your job?

I absolutely adore everything about my job from the artistic and styling to the meeting and greeting and socializing side of the work.

2. What are your feelings about your hairdressing work?

Hairdressing has really boosted my confidence. When I was at school I was quite shy. Now I feel I have grown as a person and with each day that goes by and with each client I see, my confidence increases. I love the instant buzz you get from the positive comments from your clients.

3. What is your favourite type of work you do in the salon? What excites you the most?

This might sound really boring…but…I love all aspects of hairdressing as each client is a blank canvas to work with. I love creative colouring and cutting plus I love styling hair for nights out and special occasions. I have also developed a strong following amongst our male clients and I have a passion for men’s indie/mod cutting.

4. How do you feel about being promoted to Stylist?

I’m thrilled and proud to have been promoted to a stylist. I started at Jazz Hairdressing whilst I was still at school. We were lucky to be given the opportunity to enrol on a NVQ Level 1 course with the highly respected hairdressing training organisation www.venturelearning.co.uk .I attended the course one day a week for 2 years. Then after leaving school I got an apprenticeship at Jazz and continued my trainning gaining an NVQ Level 2 and then the Advanced Level 3 after a further 3 years. After my apprenticeship ended I was delighted that I was offered a post as Graduate Stylist which I have been for the past 18 months. It just shows that hard work pays off!

5. What are your ambitions?

I want to continue to develop and grow my hairdressing client base. I am delighted how busy I am but I want to expand and develop this further. I also want to continuously develop my skills and I am currently undergoing an evening course that will allow me to assess our salon learners/apprentices on their NVQ courses. I have also undergone training as an ‘Apprenticeship Ambassador’. This involves me working with the local authority and attending careers events and talking to young people about my experiences as an apprentice. Eventually I would like to enrol on a Certificate of Education Degree so that I will be able to teach hairdressing
